An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is essentially the software many employers use to receive, store, search, filter and manage job applications.
The important thing to understand is that an ATS doesn’t simply give your CV a pass/fail mark. What it does depends on the particular system and how the employer has configured it. It turns your nicely formatted CV into structured data. Think of it as taking your nicely formatted CV and stripping it down into searchable information. It identifies keywords and concepts, and it can rank, filter and the database for suitable candidates. In many recruitment processes, the ATS is primarily organising and making candidates searchable, while recruiters and hiring managers decide who progresses.
